For founder Kevin Kerr, that belief has shaped every step of a career built through graft, reinvention, and a genuine passion for helping people and organisations perform at their best.
Having left school, Kevin was able to choose subjects that genuinely interested him. From that point on, he became someone who learns by doing and who never stops developing himself. Continuous professional development has been constant throughout his life, not because he had to, but because the industries he works in evolved quickly. Trends shift, expectations rise, and staying current is essential if you want to deliver real value.
Kevin stepped straight into hospitality, starting on a trainee hotel manager programme. It was here that he discovered his love for people, service, and the rhythm of operational life. From food & beverage to hotel operations and eventually into health and fitness, he built his career from the ground up.
His early career took an exciting turn when he became a fitness presenter, travelling the world delivering workshops, masterclasses, and training events. This experience strengthened his communication skills, confidence, and ability to engage and motivate diverse audiences, qualities that continue to shape his consultancy work today.
Kevin spent many years working at sea, beginning in fitness, and eventually progressing into ship security management. Those years gave him a deep understanding of safety, risk, incident investigation, and the importance of clear processes. To this day, he still enjoys cruising as a passenger, watching how the industry has grown and evolved from the early days he remembers so well.
Alongside his fitness presenting, Kevin progressed into multi‑site leadership across hotel leisure clubs, gyms, and health clubs. He explored his entrepreneurial side, running coffee pop‑ups, events, and a small coffee chain concept, and he remains involved in the coffee retail industry today. He also runs an event management company, planning and delivering events of his own.
Throughout his career, Kevin returned to college and university multiple times, retraining in security operations and investigation, and specialist roles supporting high‑net‑worth clients and maritime security. He later updated his teacher training qualifications and became a subject‑matter specialist, teaching at colleges and for private training providers. His ability to break down complex topics into practical, real‑world learning is one of the strengths clients value most.
Kevin’s leadership style has always been rooted in trust, empowerment, and clarity, never micromanagement.
He believes that whether you run a small business or a global operation, you cannot do everything yourself. There will never be ten versions of you and micromanaging only limits growth. This philosophy shapes how he supports leaders today: helping them build strong teams, clear processes, and the confidence to step back and lead effectively.
Over the years, Kevin found himself being asked for advice more on operations, leadership, training, compliance, incident investigation, and business improvement. Eventually, it became clear that consultancy was not just something he was doing informally; it was the natural next step. So, he formalised what he was already doing, and K D Kerr Associates was born.
Today, Kevin offers friendly, honest, and practical consultancy support grounded in decades of hands-on experience. He focuses on what he does exceptionally well: operational improvement, leadership support, training, incident, and accident investigation, and helping organisations run smarter.
